The Art of Andrea Benner Disbro

Art to me is a very important part of my life. Everywhere I look I see a painting whether it be a beautiful sunset, a tree lacking leaves in the winter against a blue sky, or rickety run down house with the yard filled with rusted machinery. There is always a visual story to be painted everywhere I look. Sometimes the pose or the look on a person's face will give me an inspiration. I don't need to paint "pretty" paintings, but ones that have some meaning to me. I especially like working on my series from old family photographs. I try to give a face to the past so the present and then the future have knowledge and meaning of the past. The miniatures are fun to paint. The smaller the painting is the more challenging it is to paint especially the portraits. All of my artwork has meant a great deal to me, in many ways now that my children are grown, it is my identity, a part of who I am.
